Robert Percy Littlewood, photographer
Introduction

Robert Percy Littlewood (1910-), paternal grandfather of Julian Littlewood, was a keen photographer. Indeed, the camera was one of the few technological developments of the last two centuries for which he had any time. He travelled extensively, and frequently sent off his photographs to competitions.

These pages represent only a small fraction of even his surviving photos from the 1940s and 1950s.

  • England. During this period the Littlewoods lived in Leicestershire. These pictures are a mixure of local scenes and photographs of notable buildings and landscapes elsewhere.
  • Abroad. Gertud (Robert's wife) was Swiss, and Switzerland was a common holiday destination. His father lived in Paraguay, and in 1954 the family made an extensive holiday around South America. There were also several shorter trips to various European countries.
  • Still Lifes and Familial. Robert experimented extensively with still-life photograph. Sometimes he had exceptional material to work from, for instance the Don Quixote statue. He also took many photos of his family.
